Fast-Track approval for landmark retirement village, The Point Misson Bay
Last week Fast-Track approval was granted for The Point Mission Bay, paving the way for the transformation of one of Auckland's most iconic retirement village locations.
The approval marks a significant milestone for the Eastcliffe Retirement Village site, providing certainty for existing residents, future purchasers and the wider community, while enabling detailed design and pre-construction activities to progress.
Located on an iconic 2.5-hectare site at Takaparawhau overlooking the Waitematā Harbour, The Point Mission Bay will comprise over 250 apartments and a comprehensive care facility. Construction is expected to start early in 2027.
Under the arrangement, Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei will retain ownership of the whenua, while Generus Living Group will develop, own and operate the village under a long-term lease arrangement.
Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei and Generus Living welcomed the approval, describing it as an important step towards delivering a premium retirement community in a location of cultural, historical and strategic significance.
The Point Mission Bay takes its name from its location at Takaparawhau (Bastion Point), reflecting the site's deep connection to the whenua and its proximity to Mission Bay.
Generus Living Director Graham Wilkinson said Fast-Track approval enables The Point Mission Bay to move from vision to reality and provides confidence for prospective purchasers considering one of the most significant lifestyle decisions of their retirement.
The Point Mission Bay combines premium retirement living, quality care, strong community connections and unparallelled views. We are also planning a series of facilities and amenities of the quality associated with our collection of villages.
"Many people want the certainty of securing their future lifestyle early, particularly in a location as unique as this. We expect strong demand for The Point Mission Bay now approval has been secured,” Wilkinson said.
Reservations for The Point Mission Bay will open shortly, with prospective residents able to secure a future home in one of Auckland's most sought-after coastal locations. A unique limited-time $100,000 pre-construction purchase incentive will also be available for early purchasers.
"With this incentive, purchasers have the opportunity to secure their future home while having around three years before they need to sell their existing property. Many people see significant value in having that flexibility at a time when market conditions are expected to strengthen over that time.
"We've already seen unsolicited interest from people wanting to remain connected to the eastern bays and wider central Auckland area, and we expect momentum to continue now approval has been secured, he said."
A sales centre will open on the site shortly, allowing prospective purchasers and their families to explore plans for the village and learn more about apartment options and village living.
The development is expected to inject approximately $336 million into the economy through construction activity, employment and wider economic benefits for Auckland and the surrounding community.
The Point Mission Bay will be the seventh retirement village in the Generus Living collection. Our villages include The Foundation and Ranfurly Village in Auckland, Holly Lea and The Russley Village in Christchurch, and Pacific Coast and Pacific Lakes in Tauranga.
