Award of Excellence for The Beach House

The Beach House at Pacific Coast Village has been awarded the Tauranga Beefsteak & Burgundy Club’s Award of Excellence - only the fourth restaurant to receive the award in the club’s 20-year history.

The Beefsteak & Burgundy Club was founded in Adelaide in 1954 by 20 members of the wine trade who would lunch together every Friday and bring along wine to share with their peers.  The ripples of that luncheon spread across Australia and to other countries, with the Tauranga club receiving its club charter from the parent organisation in December 1998.

The club has a Cellar Master who purchases wine for dinner meetings and Food Master who arranges the dinner venue and the menu in consultation with the chef. The Cellar Master then matches the wine with the food.

The Tauranga Beefsteak & Burgundy Club Award of Excellence is awarded to a restaurant that provides food of a consistently high standard.  Consideration is given to the welcome, presentation of the restaurant for the dinner, the waiting staff and the meal.  Club president and Pacific Coast Village resident Tom Uden says the staff at The Beach House are “absolutely wonderful” and the chef has gone out of his way to provide an “extraordinary” menu each of the four times the club has dined there.  “It’s a wonderful place to have a meal and we’ll be back again!”

The award was first presented in 2005 to Soho Restaurant, followed by Zone Restaurant in 2007, and Mills Reef Restaurant in 2012.

Food and beverage options at The Beach House include The Grill Brasserie and Bloom Eatery and Lounge. While the facilities are not open to the general public, residents can invite friends and family and host club events.  "The Grill Brasserie offers an à la carte menu, but Sundays are reserved for Family Roast Night and many residents will bring along family living locally," says Pacific Coast Village Manager Carl Braddock.  "Lots of residents used to live locally and their families live in the area. School holidays are a particularly busy time."

The Beach House and its food and beverage offers have become really popular with the residents and many of them bring their clubs here for a meal, such as the Tauranga Beefsteak & Burgundy Club. It wouldn’t be unusual to host a dinner for up to 50 people.”
